On November 13, 2024, the ACICORK project was presented at the conference organized by the Interplatforms Group for the Circular Economy (GIEC) in coordination with the State Research Agency (AEI), dedicated to exploring opportunities for innovation, financing and collaboration. The conference is aimed at providing key information on public-private funding calls within the framework of the AEI, the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). In addition, success stories and project ideas were presented for the search for partners, which will serve as inspiration for those interested in joining pioneering initiatives in the field of the circular economy. The event is aimed at agents from strategic industrial sectors in Spain, within the Inter-platforms group, who seek to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy, with more sustainable and resource-efficient production and consumption models.

In this framework, the project coordinator, Mariola Sánchez González from the Institute of Forest Sciences (ICIFOR-INIA-CSIC) presented the project Climate-Smart Alcornocales (ACICORK): Tools for forest management and monitoring, cork characterization and the fight against drought. The main objective is to design a climate-smart forest management strategy adapted to the cork value chain by developing and improving innovative tools for forest management of new cork production systems using geospatial techniques. The project is funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency (MICIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) and by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) “A way to make Europe”.

The project was also presented on November 5 at the online technical conference of the Spanish Cork Technology Platform (PTECOR).
